History Of Bruce Lee

The martial art experience of Bruce Lee went through 5 different stages throughout his short life. These five stages are related to 5 places, Hong Kong, Seattle, Auckland, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

The first stage is an important time of the beginning of his martial art learning. The final stage is the time when Bruce’s mind is changed. These two important stages happened both in Hong Kong. Although other three stages happened in the America, Bruce had came back to Hong Kong in the mean time and stayed for as long as 4 months.

For two third of his life, he lived in Hong Kong. The experience and inspiration he has got in Hong Kong were often overlooked. This might be because his family, dojo, students and writings were all in the America. But in fact, Hong Kong has made enormous effect on him.

Bruce Lee studied and researched about all kinds of martial arts. He tried to absorb the strength of all disciplines and disregard the unnecessary parts of them. Among them, three has been chosen to be the building blocks of Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun, Boxing and Fencing. And among these 3, Wing Chun is definitely the most important one.

Why did Wing Chun that has no traditional forms and focus on practicality spread all over the world? And why did Jeet Kune Do that has no traditional forms and focus on practicality spread all over the world? Simply because they have scientific theories, simple and direct, westerners are willing to accept them.

Bruce’s Wing Chun teacher, Yip Man was very liberal in martial art. He made his own style of Wing Chun with traditional heritage and creative theories. After 22 years of evolution and development, it has flourished in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and all over the world.
